Cloud based communication, voice and file sharing platforms have a myriad of benefits. The movement to the cloud means businesses spend less time installing and maintaining expensive IT hardware. In addition, most SaaS platforms such as Microsoft 365 (formerly known as Office 365) take the responsibility for maintaining the security and compliance of the platform across regions.
SaaS solutions also have the benefit of being scalable compared with traditional IT infrastructure. As the business expands, you don’t need to buy more servers or physical space to hold them – providing more scalability.

Microsoft 365 is one of the most popular enterprise cloud services in the world. According to the latest data, it is used by over a million companies worldwide and includes applications such as Microsoft Teams, Onedrive, Word, OneNote and SharePoint. Microsoft Teams provides a voice and sharing platform that allows for easy communication between office branches, operating on a scalable user licence model to keep costs low. The use of Microsoft Teams surged during the pandemic – growing over 90% during 2020 with 145M daily active users – with the APAC region showing strong growth with almost 22M downloads in Q2 2020 alone.
Office 365 holds a global market share of around 38% globally with Google’s Gsuite as the primary competitor. Microsoft has recently announced the addition of new cloud regions across APAC, including key developing markets such as Malaysia and Indonesia.
In China the market is dominated by Office 365 with a 57% market share – however most of this communication stays within the market. For companies based in Europe that operate in the Chinese Mainland, Microsoft recommends that users in China use a private network or SDWAN/VPN solution for the best network performance and to ensure uninterrupted connectivity between Europe, APAC and China mainland locations.
